THE division of seats among Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) component parties for the upcoming 17th Sabah state election has not yet been discussed, according to coalition chairman and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
However, Hajiji said the GRS election machinery is fully prepared to face the anticipated polls, which are expected to be held soon.
“What’s clear is that GRS is ready. We have set up our election machinery and conducted a series of training sessions in various constituencies and state assembly areas,” he said.
“However, the matter of seat distribution has not been discussed,” he added.
He was speaking on Saturday after officiating at the District Police Headquarters (IPD) Tuaran’s Aidiladha Qurban Programme 2025.
Also present were State Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim; Assistant Minister for Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, who is also Kiulu assemblyman; Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau; and Pantai Dalit assemblyman Datuk Jasnih Daya. The group symbolically handed over a sacrificial cow to Tuaran Police Chief Superintendent Noraidin Ag Maidin.
Speaking at the event, Hajiji expressed hope that Hari Raya Aidiladha would remind the public—particularly Muslims—of the importance of unity, cooperation and selflessness.
“This celebration is not just about the sacrifice of livestock, but also about how, in our daily lives, we must be willing to compromise, work together and sacrifice for the greater good.
“It means we must prioritise unity and the future of Sabah’s multiracial society,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Hajiji performed the Aidiladha prayers at Masjid Haji Noor in Kampung Serusop, alongside approximately 1,000 congregants. - June 7, 2025
