Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) has taken stern action against a bus operator found violating passenger capacity regulations, reflecting its commitment to upholding safety standards in the public transportation sector.
The move came after CVLB Chairperson Vivian Wong took note of a Daily Express report highlighting concerns about overloaded outstation buses.
In response, she instructed the relevant authorities to immediately investigate the matter.
“The investigation identified the company and buses operating beyond their permitted passenger capacity,” Wong said in a statement, Friday.

“The Licensing Board, being the responsible agency, has issued a show-cause letter to the company to prevent such dangerous practices from recurring,” she said.
The decisive action follows recent complaints from passengers travelling long distances by bus from Tawau to Sandakan, who urged authorities to step up monitoring and enforcement, especially during festive seasons.
Their concerns arose after enduring an uncomfortable and potentially hazardous journey in an overloaded bus, compromising both comfort and safety.
Wong expressed gratitude to the public for reporting such violations and encouraged continued vigilance in lodging complaints against errant public transport operators.
She urged public transport operators to prioritise compliance with regulations over profits, emphasising that passenger comfort and safety should never be compromised.
