Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) denies allegations by the Limbang Lorry Association (LLA) that permits take as long as a month for approval.
SCVLB Chairman Dato’ Chin Kim Hiung said the issue which had made recent headlines pertained to “Out-Of-Area” licences.
“Completed applications are approved in 14 working days. Delay stems from incomplete application submissions requiring CVLB to recheck.
“Validity is only for three months and not one year as before the pandemic. The board reached this decision after finding the said licences were being exploited by a few irresponsible parties,” he said.
He made clear that the out-of-area licences only allow the transport of goods from Sarawak into Sabah and not to freely operate in Sabah.
“Areas of operation are stated in the contracts given to licence holders. It can, for instance, allow delivery only to and from the City area or for the whole State.
“The LLA also claims that the cost of operating in Sabah is much higher. CVLB again denies this statement.
“We are only in charge of issuing said licences with a fixed charge of RM127.50 for the three month period. Other charges incurred are outside our jurisdiction.
“SCVLB strives to look after the welfare of commercial vehicle operators in addition to ensuring that the public transport system in Sabah meets the needs of its users and operators including those from the neighbouring state of Sarawak,” he said.
