Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Cuepacs has expressed full support for the reminder issued by Cuepacs President Dato Dr Adnan Mat on the need for civil servants to uphold the image, integrity and professionalism of the public service at all times.
However, its Chairman Ajulahin Japin clarified that the advice is meant specifically for official events or functions organised by government departments and agencies, where civil servants are representing the Government and are bound by the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.
He stressed that all official government functions in Sabah have always complied with proper protocol and have never served alcoholic beverages, adding that there has never been any issue of non-compliance or misconduct arising from such events.
“As for non-official or private functions, attendance and conduct remain a personal matter, as long as civil servants continue to uphold the dignity of their position and refrain from actions that could tarnish the image of the public service,” he said in a statement Wednesday.
Ajulahin added that while individual rights should be respected, civil servants are generally well aware of the code of conduct that governs their roles and responsibilities.
He also expressed confidence that all parties, including the private sector, will continue to respect cultural and religious sensitivities, particularly when organising official programmes involving government officers.
“Ultimately, maintaining the integrity and good name of the civil service is a shared responsibility, and Sabah Cuepacs believes that all public servants will continue to carry themselves with honour, discipline and professionalism, both in and outside the workplace,” said Ajulahin.
