Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Day celebration serves as a symbol of the state’s struggle for rights at the federal level in a constructive and harmonious manner.
State Assistant Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Peto Galim, said the celebration, themed For You, Sabah My Homeland, reminds the people of Sabah’s entry into Malaysia on Aug 31, 1963.
“Sabah Day has an impact and remains relevant to the people of this state through several key aspects, including providing space for the younger generation to learn about Sabah’s history, rights, and position in the Federation.
“It is hoped that this year’s Sabah Day celebration will instil pride and love for the state, strengthen unity among the multiracial community, raise awareness of the state’s history and rights, spur development and become a symbol of resilience and hope for the future,” he said in an interview with SabahFM on Wednesday.
According to him, the programme lineup for Sabah Day will not only focus on cultural events but also forums and exhibitions that open up discussions on social, economic, and innovation development.
“District-level events in Keningau (Aug 10), Pitas (Aug 17), Beaufort (Aug 22), Tawau (Aug 24) and Sandakan (Aug 27), along with the Sabah Day Football Festival this year, give people across the state an opportunity to embrace the meaning of the celebration.
“The Sabah Day exhibition will also be held from Aug 29–31 at Suria Sabah Shopping Mall,” he said.
Peto also invited the public to join in the National Day 2025 celebration at Dataran Hotel Promenade in the morning, and the Sabah Day 2025 celebration at Padang Merdeka, Kota Kinabalu in the evening.
The highlight of the celebrations will take place on Aug 31 at Padang Merdeka with stage performances, poetry recitals and a fireworks display.
