LABUAN: Sabah’s defences will be bolstered with additional coastal radars and more military personnel, while air defence radar systems will also be deployed in Labuan and Pulau Layang-Layang, says Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
He said the military personnel strength in Sabah, currently at about 10,000, would be increased alongside new camps and facility upgrades to shield the country from potential fallout from regional tensions.
“This is not a reaction to what is being done in the Philippines. If tensions escalate, we cannot be certain there will be no consequences for our country,” he told a press conference on Friday after witnessing the handover of the RMAF’s first FA-50M light combat aircraft at the Labuan Air Base.
