The MADANI government has renewed its pledge to accelerate the fulfilment of commitments made during the recent Sabah state election, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressing that the administration must quickly convert campaign promises into results. Speaking at the Rancakkan MADANI Bersama Malaysiaku programme in Putrajaya, he underlined that the period of elections had passed, and what remained was the responsibility to act decisively.

He said the government would no longer tolerate the familiar pattern of leaders making promises only to abandon them once the votes were secured. Instead, he outlined a detailed system to monitor each development project, emphasising that a complete execution plan would be finalised within a week. Among the ongoing issues still requiring urgent intervention are electricity supply, clean water access, and road development—areas that have long impacted communities in Sabah.

Anwar explained that approximately 250 major projects would be placed under close supervision, with monthly meetings between federal and state authorities to ensure steady progress. This, he said, represented a new approach centred on accountability and consistent follow-through.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof also highlighted progress made under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), confirming that 19 key items had already been resolved. One major development involved the transfer of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) to state control through the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS). Despite the handover, the federal government is continuing substantial support, including RM3.54 billion in electricity subsidies that will run until 2030.

Fadillah acknowledged that a handful of MA63 issues remain unresolved due to conflicting legal interpretations between federal and state entities. He stressed that such matters cannot be settled instantly, though most concerns have already been ironed out.

He also pointed to Malaysia’s expanding role in regional energy integration via the ASEAN Power Grid (APG). The initiative, he said, will allow countries in Southeast Asia to share electricity across borders, enhancing stability and resilience during shortages. Borneo’s rich renewable energy potential is expected to form a key supply hub, with future undersea cable links planned from the island to Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, and eventually the Philippines.

Anwar additionally reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Pan Borneo Highway, noting that the massive infrastructure project would proceed in a more coordinated and efficient manner. The highway, valued at RM6.9 billion in Sabah and RM6 billion in Sarawak, has already been completed in Sarawak and will receive improved access routes in both regions.

The three-day Rancakkan MADANI programme concluded with a wide range of public services, exhibitions, career events, and family activities, reinforcing the government’s effort to maintain direct engagement with Malaysians while ensuring accountability in its development agenda.
