Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity has advised the public that its staff are never instructed to visit customer premises to collect personal details without prior official notification.
The utility company issued the clarification following reports of unauthorised individuals posing as its personnel visiting residential homes under the guise of requesting account information.
It stated that official inspections or maintenance work are strictly limited to electricity meters and related external components, and staff are not authorised to enter premises for internal wiring checks without prior arrangement.
Official Sabah Electricity personnel must wear uniforms bearing the company logo and carry valid employee identification cards, which consumers have the right to inspect before allowing any work to proceed.
The company emphasised that employees are strictly prohibited from collecting cash payments or deposits at customer residences, and all transactions must be made through official payment channels, its customer service centres, the 15444 hotline, or the mySE+ mobile app.
