
Kota Kinabalu: Stakeholders from government agencies, energy operators and industry gathered at the Sabah International Convention Centre Tuesday to strengthen enforcement strategies and inter-agency coordination for gas pipeline Right-of-Way safety management.
Organised by the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS), Petronas and Sabah Energy Corporation Sdn Bhd, the workshop focused on developing effective safety measures for gas pipeline zones across the State.
In line with ECoS’ aspiration to promote a safe, reliable and sustainable energy sector, the workshop serves as a knowledge-sharing platform among key stakeholders.
It provides an avenue to plan future initiatives and reinforce the long-term operational sustainability of the energy and related industries in Sabah.
Geotechnical engineer, Wong Chen Jack, who represented the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (Sabah) and is also the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sabah Honorary Treasurer, provided sharing on technical matters.
His presentation, titled “Geotechnical Hazard Management in Pipeline Right-of-Way Areas” focused on the identification, assessment and mitigation of geotechnical risks such as landslides, ground movement and soil erosion that may affect the safety and structural integrity of gas pipelines, especially in Sabah’s geologically sensitive terrain.
ECoS expressed appreciation to all participants, speakers and technical departments, collaborating agencies for their commitment and contribution toward advancing safe and sustainable gas pipeline management in Sabah.
