Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Environmental Protection Association (SEPA), led by President Alexander Yee, will host a public forum on water security themed “Water: What’s Our Next Move?” on Nov 9 at Kinabalu Daya Hotel.

The session aims to address Sabah’s dual challenges of water scarcity and recurring floods, particularly in Penampang and Kota Kinabalu, while fostering dialogue among experts, industry players and the public.

Keynote speaker Datuk Dr Ramzah Dambul, CEO of the Sabah Institute for Development Studies (IDS), will highlight how poor storage, drainage, and inter-agency coordination contribute to both water shortages and flash floods, despite Sabah’s abundant rainfall.

Panelists include former Sabah Water Department Director Datuk Dr Amarjit Singh, Vincent Tan Heng Kui, Executive Director of Ikram Group, and Sam K.F. Tsen, Life Member of the Malaysia Stormwater Organisation. The session will be moderated by Benjamin Golimbi, Sepa Executive Committee Member and President of the Penampang Tourism Association.

Alexander said the forum underlines SEPA’s commitment to responsible water governance and climate resilience.

“Water security and flood resilience affect every Sabahan. This forum brings together experts and the public to better understand our shared challenges and explore ways forward,” he said.

The event comes amid recurring floods and water disruptions in the state, emphasizing the need for integrated solutions that balance development, conservation, and community resilience.
