Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is ready to attract more offshore energy investments as it strengthens its position as a regional hub for floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG), carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) and offshore renewable energy, State Assistant Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Datuk Jonnybone J. Kurum (pic) said.
Speaking at a VIP luncheon held in conjunction with the Offshore Energy Asia (OEA) 2026 Conference recently, he said Sabah offered strong investment potential through its strategic location, natural resources and investor-friendly policies.
Jonnybone said the State Government was working with Petronas, Sabah International Petroleum and federal agencies to accelerate responsible energy development under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 roadmap.
He also highlighted Sabah's policy requiring at least 80 per cent of the workforce for new investment projects to comprise Sabahans, supported by job matching, upskilling and certification programmes.
Jonnybone urged industry players to consider Sabah as a long-term investment destination, expressing hope the conference would generate new investments and economic opportunities for the State.
