Kota Kinabalu: Sabah FC players must stay focussed to keep the team’s top three place in sight in the match against Kuala Lumpur City FC at Likas Stadium this evening (Sunday).

The Rhinos are currently in fifth place and still have a chance to finish in the top three with six matches to play.

Head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee called on the players to forget the big loss to Johor Darul Ta’zim FC on Wednesday where they were thrashed 1-5 and instead focus fully on tonight’s match.

“The players must put that defeat behind and concentrate on winning the match against KL City tomorrow night to restore the confidence from the fans.

It is going to be a difficult task as Kuala Lumpur City FC have been Sabah FC nemesis this season having lost to them 1-0 away in the first round league tie away in April followed by the 1-2 defeat in the FA Cup quarter final here at Likas Stadium in May.

This will be a revenge mission for the Rhinos but Ong may still have to achieve that without a few key players due to injuries.

He had earlier admitted that the absence of these players in the match on Wednesday was one of the factors for the heavy loss.

“We still have several players including Saddil (Ramdani) and Cifuentes (Miguel) on the injury list.

“ I hope they have enough time to recover for the match as we have one more day to look at their condition before the kick-off .”

Meanwhile, Sabah FC next match is the round 16 second leg tie against Kuching City FC here at Likas Stadium before taking on Negeri Sembilan FC also at home on August 26 in the league.
