Kuala Lumpur: The number of flood evacuees housed at temporary relief centres in Sabah dropped to 892 people from 273 families Saturday evening, compared with 1,476 people from 459 families Saturday morning.

The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), in a statement, said all victims were housed at seven relief centres across three districts, namely Penampang, Membakut and Papar.

“The number of victims in Membakut (390) and Papar (190) shows a downward trend, while Penampang still records 303 victims.

“The number of affected villages remains at 53, with 24 in Penampang, 20 in Papar and nine in Membakut,” it said.

In SARAWAK, the JPBN reported that the number of flood victims at the relief centre at Dewan Suarah Marudi, Miri, had risen to 17 people from five families as of 4pm, compared with 13 people from three families Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, according to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s (DID) Public Info Banjir portal, river levels at the Long Teru and Marudi stations remain at danger level despite the absence of rain.
