Flooding in Sabah forces over 4,300 people into 32 relief centres as Pitas, Paitan and Tawau districts are hit by severe weather

SABAH: The number of flood evacuees in Sabah has risen sharply, with 4,348 people from 1,774 families now seeking shelter.

They are housed across 32 temporary relief centres in the affected districts of Pitas, Paitan and Tawau.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee reported the increase from 3,427 victims recorded last night.

All evacuees originate from 70 villages impacted by the ongoing floods.

Pitas remains the worst-hit district, with its evacuee count climbing to 2,618 people from 1,276 families.

Paitan’s numbers rose to 1,485 people from 443 families, while Tawau’s figure held steady at 245 people from 55 families.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorms for Sabah’s interior areas from this morning until tonight.
