
FLOODING in Sabah has worsened, with the number of evacuees rising to 5,141 people from 2,160 families as of 8am today, up from 4,761 people from 1,828 families recorded yesterday.
According to the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, all victims from four affected districts — Pitas, Kota Marudu, Paitan and Tawau — have been relocated to 27 temporary relief centres.
Tawau was officially declared flood-affected at 11.30pm last night following continuous heavy rain, making it the latest district to be hit by the disaster.
Pitas recorded the highest number of evacuees at 2,120 people, followed by Kota Marudu with 1,929, Paitan with 847 and Tawau with 245.
The floods have impacted 80 villages across the four districts. Authorities confirmed that no fatalities have been reported so far. - February 22, 2026
