Kota Kinabalu: A frozen chicken smuggling syndicate has been misusing a Sabah brand.

Sabah General Operations Force (GOF) commander Senior Asst Comm Datuk Abdul Rani Alias said the local company that owns the brand has no involvement in the illegal operation.

“The Sabah GOF Brigade wishes to clarify a seizure on March 22, when officers inspected a lorry suspected of transporting imported frozen chicken.

“During the inspection, the driver and attendant failed to present valid ownership documents for the goods in the vehicle,” SAC Abdul Rani said in a statement on Thursday.

The frozen chicken has been confiscated for further investigation under the Sabah Animals Enactment 2015.

Explaining the syndicate’s tactics, SAC Abdul Rani said they placed boxes of the branded product at the front of the cold storage compartment while hiding undocumented frozen chicken further inside.

Meanwhile, in a statement, the company reaffirmed that it has no links to any illegal activities.

The company noted that while some parties had corrected their social media postings, the initial misinformation caused confusion and concern among customers.
