Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah State Health Department (JKNS) is trying to find a solution to the parking problem at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital (QEHII) which is often flooded and littered by potholes, making it difficult for users.

Its director Dr Maria Suleiman said the parking area was actually land owned by Qhazanah Sabah Berhad which had been courteously allowed for public use.

"The leased site can accommodate about 300 vehicles and is often used by QEHII staff, visitors, and patients as an alternative to the limited number of hospital parking space.

"However, the recent uncertain weather conditions have caused the parking area to experience stagnant water and potholes, thus affecting the comfort of users," he said in a statement today.

Dr Maria said JKNS and the hospital understood the difficulties caused by the situation and had held discussions with local leaders and stakeholders to formulate more effective improvement measures.

"This includes the potential expansion and repair of the parking area to improve accessibility for patients, visitors, and hospital staff," said Dr Maria, adding that JKNS welcomes the cooperation of all parties, including local leaders and relevant authorities to find the best solution for the well-being of patients and hospital users.
