Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s tourism industry recorded 2.12 million domestic and international arrivals from January to July 2025.
This marks a 20.3 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2024 and has reached 89 per cent of pre-pandemic levels.
“It represents 60.6 per cent of the 3.5 million target set for 2025,” said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew during the 30th Association of Hwaxia Zhineng Qigong Sabah Dinner at Wisma Hakka.
Of the total, international arrivals stood at 854,648, while domestic arrivals were 1,265,165, she said.
Tourism receipts for January to July 2025 are estimated at RM5 billion, reflecting a 20.5 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
China remained Sabah’s largest international source market with 386,217 arrivals, an increase of 47.4 per cent over the same period in 2024.
This follows by Brunei (114,465 arrivals), South Korea (103,060), the UK and Europe (54,765, up 28.3 per cent), and Taiwan (22,620).
“Currently, Sabah is connected to 14 international destinations with 138 weekly flights and 25,404 seats,” she added.
On the association, she praised its vision to promote a healthier lifestyle through Zhineng Qigong, aligning with the State Government’s goals of fostering a healthier, creative and dynamic society.
“In light of rising healthcare costs and the challenges posed by an ageing population and chronic illnesses, initiatives like yours play a vital role.
“By promoting health and fitness, especially among senior citizens, you not only enhance quality of life but also help reduce the burden on our healthcare system,” said Liew.
