Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government’s decision to apply a higher penalty of five years for errant developers compared to three in the peninsula is to prevent future abandoned projects.
It was noted that previously, besides licensed developers, there were also fly-by-night non-local operators in cahoots with Sabahan partners, whose firms were not members of the Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda).
“Pending gazettement the amendments to the Housing Development (Control & Licensing) Enactment 1978 were passed in the State Assembly on Aug 10, 2023.
“It’s timely,” said Stanley Chong Hon Chung, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Sabah Ministry of Local Government and Housing, who was a panel speaker at the Shareda Institute organised “Property Chat: Seminar on abandonment vs Imprisonment” hosted by Shareda President Datuk Sr Chua Soon Ping at Bay 21 Function Hall, here, recently.
