Kota Kinabalu: Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) President Datuk Frankie Liew said Sabah’s strategic position and rich natural resources makes it an increasingly attractive destination for Chinese investment in Southeast Asia.
During his recent visit to Yongchun in China’s Fujian Province, Frankie spoke about Sabah’s investment opportunities and tourism potential to an international audience of overseas Chinese entrepreneurs.
“In the era of economic globalisation and the in-depth development of the Belt and Road Initiative, Sabah offers unique advantages and resources that make it an ideal entry point into the broader Asean market,” he said at the Special Cross-Border Matchmaking Session for Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs and Tour of Yongchun Industrial Belt Activity Plan.
He extended an invitation to overseas Chinese entrepreneurs worldwide to visit Sabah for business exploration.
In addition, he said the SCCC will continue to play an important role in facilitating business connections between Sabah and Chinese enterprises seeking to establish a presence in the region.
“We are committed to sharing resources and information while facilitating connections to identify high-potential investment projects and partners in the region,” he said.
Frankie was part of an 18-member delegation of overseas Chinese entrepreneurs who visited Yongchun on April 3, following their participation in the Second Maritime Silk Road Overseas Chinese Business Investment and Trade Conference held on April 1-2.
During the visit, the delegation toured several cultural and industrial sites including the Wulijie White Crane Fist Museum, Qiaoxin Cultural and Creative Park, Yongchun Aged Vinegar facilities and the Fragrance Testing Centre, gaining insights into Yongchun’s renowned incense industry and its development journey.
County officials from various departments including the United Front Work Department, the Bureau of Industry and Commerce and representatives from local industries held a roundtable discussion with the overseas Chinese business delegation to explore potential partnerships.
“This trip was truly fruitful and I look forward to continued cooperation in the future to jointly contribute to the Maritime Silk Road construction,” Frankie said of the visit.
The event organisers expressed hope that the initiative would strengthen ties with overseas Chinese entrepreneurs and promote integration of Yongchun’s specialty industries with international markets, while leveraging the network of overseas Chinese businesses to help local products reach global markets.
