KOTA KINABALU: For the first time, the Sabah Day 2025 celebration will feature the Sabah Independence Fighters Award.
State Assistant Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister (Maffi) Datuk Peto Halim said the award will be presented by Sabah Head of State Tun Musa Aman at Padang Merdeka from 7pm on Aug 31.
“We do not forget the historical fighters who brought us from the past to where we are today.
“So, one of the programme highlights is to appreciate and recognise our past freedom fighters, and possibly also invite their families if they are no longer with us in Sabah.
“This is our idea and it is very important that we carry it out this year. Last year, perhaps we did not have the chance, but this year we will make sure it happens, and it seems that Tun is very supportive and pleased with this proposal,” he said.
He emphasised that the public is invited to attend and celebrate the third Sabah Day, themed “For You Sabah, My Homeland.”“Undoubtedly, the Sabah Day 2025 celebration is very significant and important, and we have set several key priorities.
“Firstly, we hope that local leaders will be fully present at this programme, and secondly, we also encourage the people of Sabah, especially those living around Kota Kinabalu, to attend in large numbers.
“This is the third time we are celebrating Sabah Day. Let us all come together in a patriotic spirit, to foster unity and embrace the spirit of Malaysia Madani, so that we can move Sabah forward,” he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Musa at Istana Seri Kinabalu.
Peto, who was accompanied by Maffi Permanent Secretary Datuk Leonard Stephen Poyong, said the courtesy call was to extend an official invitation and provide a brief update on the programme itinerary.
