Sabah is waiting for the RM1.5 billion, Anwar told

TURNING to present-day grievances, Pairin said Sabah’s constitutional entitlement to 40 per cent of Federal revenue remained undelivered after more than 60 years despite being enshrined in law.

While Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had recently announced an additional RM1.5 billion for Sabah, which Pairin said was good to hear, he questioned when the funds would actually reach State administration and said this remained an open and weighty question.

“The 40 per cent is already in the constitution, it is already in law. Stop talking about it and just implement it. What does implementation mean? It means the 40 per cent is delivered to the Sabah Government for the good of Sabah and its people,” he said.

He said all these unresolved matters were worrying because Sabah faced many pressing problems that still needed to be resolved, including roads, infrastructure, electricity supply that remained insufficient and water access that was similarly lacking.

“The funds, once delivered, would help address these needs and all of it fell within what Fuad had originally intended and fought for,” he said.
