Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government is closely monitoring reports of medical officers failing to report for duty following their postings to the state.
State Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Julita Majungki (pic) said although doctor appointments and placements fall under federal jurisdiction, Sabah has consistently raised concerns over shortages and the need for better retention measures.
Julita said she had previously raised the Regional Incentive Payment (BIW) and related proposals with the federal Health Minister during bilateral discussions and committee meetings.
She backed calls by the Sabah Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) to restore the previous percentage-based BIW, enhance incentives for doctors serving in Sabah and Sarawak, and improve relocation assistance.
Julita added that the state government will wait for the full outcome of the latest placement exercise before assessing the overall impact, while continuing to engage federal authorities to address local healthcare manpower needs.
