Kota Kinabalu: Sabah celebrated Warrior’s Day on Sunday with medical workers who combatted the Covid-19 pandemic standing side-by-side with other frontline contingents.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor accompanied Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin at the ceremony held together with the launching of National Day Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang programme at Padang Merdeka, here.

The ceremony was open to the public for the first time after two years now that the country is in the transition phase of the pandemic.

The highlight was a pantomime by the Malay Regiment, re-enacting the successful defence of Kalabakan during the 1963 indonesian confrontation.

On Dec 29, 1963, the company leader and seven soldiers died thwarting the enemy’s advances at the border in Kalabakan.

Later, Juhar accompanied by Hajiji and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who is also the main organising committee chairman, visited the exhibition booths set up around Padang Merdeka.

Juhar, Hajiji and Masidi later flagged off a 15-vehicle convoy that will travel throughout Sabah.

Juhar also presented the Jalur Gemilang (national flag) to the various state and federal agencies as well as security forces.
