Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Malaysia My Second Home (Sabah-MM2H) Consultants Association (PPMRKS) brought together licensed agents, state immigration officials, and ministry officers for the first time at its inaugural annual workshop on Wednesday.
Delivering the keynote address, Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry (Kepkas) permanent secretary Datuk Josie Lai described Sabah-MM2H as a strategic economic engine designed to draw high-value global residents, citing distinctive features such as state-level governance, a 30-day annual stay requirement, a RM500,000 fixed deposit, and eligible high-rise property purchases from RM600,000.
PPMRKS President Jenny Ngu highlighted growing market challenges, pointing to domestic competition from Peninsular and Sarawak MM2H programmes, overseas residency schemes with pathways to citizenship, and an increasing preference for investment-free Guardian Visas.
In response to these industry pressures, the association appealed to the authorities to review existing terms and explore ways for Sabah-MM2H and the Guardian Visa to complement one another, offering member feedback to assist policymakers.
Technical sessions led by Kepkas assistant secretary Aiman Akmal Mohamad and Sabah Immigration deputy assistant director Bryan Erik Guntala briefed consultants on the latest criteria, application standard operating procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
