Kota Kinabalu: Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Sabah Chairman Ts. Daniel Doughty warned that Malaysia’s politics is trapped in a dangerous cycle, where parties return to race, religion and division whenever they lose support.
“Choosing between the same establishments and expecting change is no solution. Peninsular Malaysians should turn to new forces like Bersama, Muda and credible independents — not as perfect alternatives, but to force real competition into a stale system,” he said in a statement posted on his official Facebook account.
Daniel stressed that Sabah must stop simply following Kuala Lumpur’s lead.
“We must strengthen Sabah-based parties and loosen dependence on Malayan organisations. The question must shift from ‘Which coalition should we serve?’ to ‘What must Putrajaya deliver before Sabah gives support?’” the posting stated.
He also listed priorities which included the MA63, the 40pc net revenue share, oil and gas rights, infrastructure, energy, ports, education, healthcare, logistics and industrial growth.
“These are Sabah’s priorities and they must not change with federal administrations,” he added.
Even as government and opposition may differ locally, Daniel insisted that “Facing Putrajaya, Sabah must speak with one voice. That is how we build leverage.”He also called for serious engagement with Labuan, noting the island belongs to Sabah’s economic and geographic ecosystem yet remains politically tied to Putrajaya.
“Show Labuan why closer alignment offers a better future. Even one seat matters in a divided Parliament.
“Stop being a price-taker. Build a cohesive Sabah bloc. Stand united. Include Labuan. Negotiate from strength — not supplication,” Daniel concluded.
“Malaysia needs a reset. Sabah needs discipline. Labuan needs a clearer future. Stop asking for influence — build it. Or others will keep writing our story for us,” he added.
