KOTA BELUD: Sabah is on track to meet its target of four million visitors this year, having recorded about 2.6 million arrivals as of August, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said.
He said the figure comprised 1.1 million international arrivals and 1.5 million domestic visitors, adding that a stronger fourth-quarter performance could see the target achieved.
Hajiji said the State Government remained committed to competitive, inclusive and sustainable tourism growth, with the Sabah Tourism Blueprint providing direction on challenges including flight connectivity, environmental protection and local participation.
He said tourism development should benefit local communities by creating jobs and opportunities for entrepreneurs, suppliers, transport providers and other businesses, while protecting Sabah’s natural and cultural heritage.
Hajiji said the State Government was also refining strategies to strengthen Sabah’s appeal and resilience ahead of Visit Sabah Year 2027, which he described as a shared agenda requiring the commitment and participation of the government, tourism industry, private sector, local communities and the people.
