Kota Kinabalu: Sabah police chief Datuk Idris Abdullah said that 39 police reports had been lodged between October 26 and November 7 for various offences concerning the 15th general election (GE15).

He said of the 39 police reports, six investigation papers were opened to look into the offences which were political in nature.

“We counted in a police report on October 26 with a police report lodged against Datuk Maximus Ongkili,” he said.

Parti Warisan had lodged a police report against Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Ongkili for claiming that the party is undocumented migrant (PTI)-friendly.

Idris said that a total of 369 campaign permits have been issued in the state since campaigning started on November 5, with 178 being given out in the last 24 hours.

“So far our enforcement team has found that all campaigns that were checked had the appropriate permits and did not break any rules,” he said.

He reminded all political parties to ensure they have obtained all relevant approvals before any form of campaigning and gatherings are held.

He also warned them to avoid provocative elements in their campaigning.

“Make sure there are no racial elements or defamation and all your supporters behave themselves. This includes those attending ceramahs. Do not park indiscriminately and block traffic,” he said.
