ALL Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates contesting the 2025 Sabah state election have signed a binding oath pledging not to defect from the coalition if they win their respective seats.

Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the candidates also agreed to a RM10 million penalty should they choose to withdraw their support for the party after being elected.

“The penalty amount will also be channelled to their respective constituencies,” Hamzah, who is Bersatu deputy president, said in a Facebook post on Friday.

The measure is viewed as part of PN’s efforts to reinforce party discipline and curb political defections — a recurring issue in Sabah politics, particularly following past elections that saw several representatives switching camps.

For this state election, PN is contesting 41 seats: 33 under Bersatu, five under PAS, and three representing Gerakan.

However, the coalition has not yet officially disclose the exact number of candidates who have signed the pledge. – November 28, 2025
