Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Port Companies National Workers Union (KKPPSSPS) has voiced firm support for the implementation of the 24-Hour Protection Scheme, describing it as an essential step toward bolstering workers' social security and welfare.
President Mohd Airy Arin (pic) said protection for employees should not cease at the end of official working hours, given that the risk of accidents remains present at all times.
He said the proposed additional contribution of 0.75 per cent should be regarded as a future investment for employees and their dependants rather than an added financial cost.
According to Mohd Airy, the non-occupational accident scheme would provide comprehensive coverage and ease the financial strain on households if a breadwinner suffered an injury outside the workplace.
He added that the union remains ready to work alongside relevant authorities to ensure the initiative effectively safeguards workers' welfare and security.
