
KUCHING: Sabah has called for more parliamentary seats to be created in the state during the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Friday.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the meeting was cordial and allowed constructive discussions on issues important to SabahHe said Sabah’s request for more parliamentary seats was in line with the spirit of MA63 and meant to safeguard the state’s rights and interestsHajiji added that the Prime Minister agreed in principle but stressed the need for detailed technical discussions as constitutional amendments would be requiredSabah also raised the proposal for tourism to be placed under the concurrent list, which will be referred to the technical committee for further studyThe state delegation included Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam and Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, along with Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and other senior leaders.
Hajiji also welcomed the launch of the RM7.6 billion Sabah-Sarawak Link Road Phase 2 project, describing it as vital to boosting connectivity and strengthening economic and tourism growth between the two Borneo states.
