PUTRAJAYA: Datuk James Ratib said Sabah will strengthen cooperation with the Higher Education Ministry to align tertiary education with industry needs following a meeting in Putrajaya.

The Sabah Minister of Education, Science and Technology stressed that programmes in polytechnics, public and private higher education institutions must evolve with job market demands to ensure graduates remain relevant.

He said the ministry will engage industry players and institutions to better coordinate training offerings, aiming to improve employability and reduce graduate unemployment.

James also highlighted urgent needs in campuses, including replacing worn mattresses and improving student welfare such as food quality.

To boost access, he proposed a special pathway for rural and B40 students, which received positive feedback from the Higher Education Minister.
