Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is ramping up its digitalisation drive with a focus on adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance administrative efficiency and improve public service delivery, said Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman.
He said the use of AI would enable the Government to improve data management, fasten decision-making processes and reduce reliance on manual methods that are time- and resource-intensive.
“AI also plays a role in assisting State departments and agencies to better identify and respond to public needs, comprehensively, while driving digital innovation in the public sector through the development of smart applications and user-friendly platforms.
“At the same time, efforts will be made to strengthen the digital skills of civil servants to ensure they are able to adapt to new evolving technologies,” he said when officiating the first term of the State Legislative Assembly 17th sitting on Thursday.
To support this push, Musa said the State will roll out AI usage guidelines, establish Mini AI Centres and implement the Sabah State Cybersecurity Empowerment Programme to safeguard the State’s digital infrastructure and information assets.
He said the Government will also intensify the expansion of high-speed internet access to ensure all segments of society benefit from the State’s comprehensive digital development initiatives.
He said human capital development is a key driver of productivity, innovation and workforce capability.
In this regard, he said the State Government is committed to strengthening human capital development through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to produce a highly skilled workforce that align with industry needs.
Among the State Government’s priorities this year, Musa said, are the development of industry-driven curricula, the implementation of skills gap analyses and initiatives to enhance the employability of students and the local workforce.
