KOTA KINABALU: Sabah received a RM22.75 million grant from the Federal Government under the Ecological Fiscal Transfer (EFT) initiative to support the State Government’s environmental conservation efforts.

The grant, presented by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at Menara Kinabalu here on Monday, brings the total received by Sabah since 2019 to RM126.36 million.

Hajiji said the grant reflected the Federal Government’s acknowledgement of the State Government’s sound environmental conservation policy.

He said the State Government welcomed the continued support from the Federal Government.

The meeting also discussed amendments to the 1974 Environment Quality Act and the harmonisation of the National Climate Change Bill with Sabah’s legislation to optimise the benefits of the carbon economy for the State Government.
