Sabah records RM50b exports

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s exports recorded an increase of 32.2 per cent in 2022.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Foreign Trade Development Corporation (Matarde), Abu Bakar Yusof said Sabah’s exports showed a positive performance for the export sector with a value of RM50 billion, compared to RM38.16 in 2021.

“In 2022, Sabah recorded a 32.2 per cent increase in exports, as well as in terms of Sabah’s trade volume with foreign countries increasing by 30 per cent.

“This is a positive and encouraging development and Matrade will continue to assist the Sabah Government in developing local entrepreneurs to further increase their exports abroad,”

Abu Bakar said Sabah has large a pool of natural resources and the main export industries include products based on palm oil and petroleum.

“We also see potential in other products such as food and beverages, personal care products and cosmetics that can be exported from Sabah to foreign countries,” he said. He added that Matrade in collaboration with the State Government will hold Sabah State Export Day 2023 which is expected to take place at the end of this year and aims to further develop the export sector in Sabah.

Also present during the visit were X-Seed Unit Deputy Director Shah Nizam Ahmad and Matrade Sabah Director Ravidran Manogaran.
