KUDAT: Sabah’s economy has recorded steady growth in recent years, with state revenue almost doubling after the challenges brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the government had focused on three main sectors – industry, tourism, and agriculture – to restore momentum and strengthen long-term growth.
Hajiji explained that the emphasis on these sectors enabled Sabah to achieve annual revenue of nearly RM7 billion, compared with RM4 billion in previous years.
He said this at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Pulau Banggi Water Supply Expansion Scheme project, worth nearly RM62 million, at Kobong Hall, Pulau Banggi, on Saturday.
The Chief Minister highlighted that despite the difficulties faced during the pandemic, careful planning helped the state chart a clear path towards recovery.
He added that Pulau Banggi has been identified as a key area with strong potential for tourism, trade, and wider economic development.
In line with this, the government is considering upgrading Banggi’s status from a sub-district to a full district while also approving new facilities, including a multipurpose hall and a cultural hall for the local community.
Hajiji said these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring that development projects and opportunities reach all parts of Sabah, including its island communities.
