Kota Kinabalu: Sabah's economy saw a gradual recovery last year, although it is still not on par with the economic performance in 2019, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said based on findings published in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) book by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) on June 30, 2022, Sabah’s GDP in 2021 has increased by 1.1 per cent to RM78.7 billion compared to the GDP for 2020 which is RM 77.8 billion when the Covid-19 pandemic was spreading throughout the country.

Based on the records, he said Sabah’s GDP growth rate in 2020 shrunk to a negative 7.8 per cent compared to 2019.

"The service sector dominates the contribution to Sabah's GDP with 47.3 per cent, followed by 26.0 per cent contribution from the mining and quarrying sector," he said at an event, here, today.
