When in Sabah, locals say that you should try their seafood. It's even better, when locals recommend you places with good seafood for you to visit - and Welcome 100% Seafood Restaurant was one of those places.
During a business trip to the land beneath the wind, this restaurant was mentioned all day - it was our dinner plan, but everyone could barely wait until dinnertime rolled around. Once we arrived, the place was already full, even on a weekday, so it's quite lucky we didn't have to wait long for seats.
The restaurant boasts a wide variety of food options, not limited to seafood only - from clams, to fresh fish, to spiced chicken, it's a seafood heaven for locals and tourists alike. Here's a sneak peak of what we ate!

Fish was extremely fresh, considering that, well, it was freshly caught and cooked. The accompanying soy sauce flavor was gentle, which was good considering the fish itself does not taste too fishy.

Fresh prawns are definitely one of the the highlights of every seafood meal - it's no different this time. While I'm allergic to prawns and couldn't have them, my colleagues cleaned the plate truly - prawns were fresh, meaty and yummy.

Meaty scallops cooked in slightly spicy but tangy sauce, which helps to highlight the natural taste of the scallops. Only complaint is that while the shells help to make the dish look grander, it doesn't serve any actual purpose.

My favourite was the fried squid rings! Deep fried to perfect crunch, the squid itself was soft enough that it doesn't feel rubbery when you try to chew. Unlike some fried squid rings which are too big to be eaten in one go, this dish was served with the right ring size, making it easy to consume with rice. I kept going back for more!

My colleagues ordered this and it caught me by surprise - didn't expect to have spiced chicken at a seafood place, and honestly didn't have high expectations for it. However, it performed much better than I expected - the sauce was something like a peri-peri sauce, a bit spicy but milky, and chicken was not too deeply fried. You could taste the succulency of the chicken meat.

While I initially thought this was a fried tofu dish (again, unexpected at the seafood restaurant), turns out it's fried fish cake haha! While it's not too special compared to the other dishes, it was pretty flavorful that the mayonnaise dish was still almost full at the end of our meal - while a good add-on, the fish cake itself is a lighter, more neutral pairing to help balance the strong flavors of the fresh seafood. Highly recommended to add into your order.

Put this as the last photo as I'm actually not too sure what this is, while it tastes like fake sharks fin soup, the texture is a little bit more liquid and the content of the soup is fish meat.

As for drink options, they serve everything from coffee to limau ais to alcohol, but for myself, I chose limau ais - it was quite sweet but refreshing, a nice treat to accompany all the other dishes that are everything except sweet.
Overall, it was a really satisfying first seafood meal in both taste satisfaction and variety that, as the locals would agree, is 100x better than in KL.
Bonus: fresh sea life is displayed in the open, which makes a good experience for both kids and adults to see for themselves the freshness of the seafood and the different types of seafood offered at the restaurant!
