
Kota Kinabalu: The “Shining Angels” dance troupe, coached by renowned local dance instructor Angela Tan Shei Wen, has been shortlisted for the finals of the “Bauhinia Cup International Dance Competition 2024,” organised by the Hong Kong Dance Federation Development Fund.
The “Shining Angels” dance troupe consists of 14 members who will participate in the open group dance category for under-15 with a dance piece titled “The Fragrance of the Clear Rice Field,” choreographed by Angela.
The event will be held on August 23 at the Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium in Hong Kong.
Angela, the head of Angela Tan Studio, has received awards such as the “Top Ten Best Mentor Award and Creativity Award” from the Asia Pacific International Book of Records.

Read more She said that the international event in Hong Kong features a total of 151 dance troupes from different countries, with more than 600 participants. Out of these, 53 groups have advanced to the finals.
The competition includes categories such as Chinese dance, ballet, jazz and street dance, contemporary dance, and open dance (including Eastern and Western ethnic dances).
Renowned dancers from China, Hong Kong, and overseas will serve as judges, making it a highly anticipated international dance event.
The “Shining Angels” dance troupe include Cheah Jean Nna, Celeste Chiou Syn Yue, Chiu Zi Tong, Voon Jia Yee SJK(C) St James; Mikayla Leong Ja En, Steffi Chu Jia Yi SJK (C) Chung Hwa Kota Kinabalu; Holiday Lee Pei Ni,Olivia lee Pei Xuan SK (C) Anglo Chinese Kota Kinabalu; Natalie Wong Xuan,Tan Yee Yun SJK (C) Shan Tao; Chanel Tan Yi Xuan, Chaney Tan Ting Xuan, Chantelle Tan Ying Xuan SRS Datuk Simon Fung; and Rex Tang Zi Xuan( Kian Kok Middle School).
Angela said the dance troupe’s success to qualify for the international event in Hong Kong is not only due to the efforts of the members, but also the support and cooperation of the parents and the schools.
She hopes that the schools will continue to support them, allowing these young dancers to further develop their potential and shine on the international stage.
