SANDAKAN: Sandakan MP Vivian Wong Shir Yee (pic) has urged the Sabah Water Department (JANS) to prioritise water supply stability by implementing a five-year development plan to prevent future crises.
She raised concerns over recurring water supply issues and called for JANS to learn from past mistakes instead of repeating them.
While welcoming the appointment of JANS’ new director, Chee Chun Chieh, Wong emphasised that although Sandakan will receive five new water storage tanks, they will only provide a partial solution.
She stressed that securing long-term water resources requires effective planning, research, and comprehensive pipeline replacements instead of short-term repairs.
Additionally, Wong expressed concerns over frequent leadership changes within JANS, fearing it may impact efficiency, and called for stronger federal-state cooperation to resolve Sabah’s water crisis effectively.
