KOTA KINABALU: The 275kV Sabah–Sarawak Interconnection has been commissioned, marking a key milestone in strengthening Sabah’s electricity supply and supporting its energy transition.

Deputy Chief Minister and Works Minister Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr) Joachim Gunsalam witnessed the launch at the Load Despatch Centre, alongside officials from Sabah Electricity and Sarawak Energy.

The transmission line, synchronised at PMU Mengalong, Sipitang, also included virtual participation.

Joachim said the interconnection enhances system stability, increases reserve margins, and enables energy sharing across Borneo.

Scheduled for commercial operation on 13 December 2025, it will inject 30MW to 50MW into the Sabah grid, improving reliability for consumers and supporting long-term demand.

The project also lays the groundwork for a future ASEAN Power Grid, driving sustainable economic development and advancing Sabah’s energy transition agenda.
