Leaders representing the East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak have agreed to discuss potentially creating a ‘Borneo bloc’, as the 15th General Elections inch closer to a conclusion that may potentially end with Malaysia’s first-ever hung parliament. As of writing at 2.32am, the Pakatan Harapan coalition is leading the charge with a slim majority of 70 seats, tailed closely behind by Perikatan Nasional’s 64 seats.

Quoting Hajiji Noor, chairman of the ruling Gabungan Parti Sabah, local news outlet Free Malaysia Today reports that he had received a phone call from Sarawak premier, Abang Johari Openg, on the matter and have agreed to open discussions for a collaboration.
“This is to ensure we support the federal government that will be beneficial to Sabah and Sarawak,” he told members of the media during a press conference.
Noor’s party, GRS-BN, has managed to secure 13 out of 25 seats in the state of Sabah, while Perikatan Nasional managed to eke out a single seat. As for Sarawak, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) managed to secure a landslide victory of 22 seats.
