Kota Kinabalu: Sabah has recorded a 101.9 per cent increase in dengue cases, as of July 2, compared with the same period last year, said Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya.
Shahelmey said the current figure is 1,791, while there were 887 dengue cases reported in the same period last year.
“For Sandakan, the number of registered dengue cases, as of July 2, were 327,” he said in a response to a question by Karamunting assemblyman Hiew Vun Zin at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, here, Monday.
“This represents an increase of 436 per cent over the same period last year, and there are still six active dengue outbreak areas in Sandakan.”
This has prompted the Sabah Health Department to take proactive measures to address the situation.
