Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Ltd (SSPC) has taken a final investment decision on the third phase of the Malikai deepwater development, offshore Sabah.
The project involves drilling four oil-producing wells to enhance Malikai's expected recoverable oil volumes.
Phase 3 is expected to boost oil production at Malikai by 60 per cent, increasing output from around 25,000 to approximately 40,000 barrels per day upon completion.
Production from this third phase is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2028.
The development forms part of Shell's ongoing investment in Malaysia's deepwater potential and supports its target to sustain material liquids production of roughly 1.4 million barrels per day towards 2030 and beyond.
Shell Malaysia Country Chair and Senior Vice President Upstream Malaysia Siti Sulaiman said the decision marks another important milestone in the company's long-standing commitment to Malaysia and its contribution to Sabah's economic growth.
She also expressed gratitude to Petronas and project partners for their continued support, reaffirming Shell's commitment to supporting national economic progress and energy transition efforts under Petronas's Malaysia Petroleum Management stewardship.
