TUARAN: Sabah is intensifying efforts to improve energy services and upgrade electricity infrastructure to ensure a more stable and sustainable power supply.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the state government supports initiatives by Sabah Electricity to enhance operational efficiency, expand power generation capacity, and strengthen transmission and distribution networks across the state.

He said the government, through the Sabah Energy Council and Energy Commission of Sabah, is implementing short-, medium- and long-term strategies, including new power generation projects using gas as a transition fuel and expanding renewable energy such as hydro, solar and wind, along with modern battery storage systems.

Hajiji added that the Sabah-Sarawak grid interconnection launched earlier this year will further stabilise the state’s power supply, increase reserve margins and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

A recently launched 15MW solar project in Tuaran is also part of the state’s long-term energy strategy under the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040.
