KOTA KINABALU – Sabah is set to play host to the sixth World Tourism Conference, which will be held from November 28 to 30.
Around 700 international and local delegates, as well as tourism ministers, senior officials, academicians, and top industry figures are expected to attend the two-day conference, said federal Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Nancy Shukri.
She said this when paying a courtesy call to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor at his office in Menara Kinabalu today.
“The conference is based on a strategic cooperation between the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, the Sabah government, and Sabah Tourism Board,” she said in a statement here today.
“The sixth conference (scheduled) this year is based on the success of the fifth conference held previously.”
She said that the conference, held every three years, is held with the cooperation of the United Nations’ World Tourism Organisation.
Sabah, which also hosted the conference 12 years ago, was selected again as a sign of recognition of the Sabah government’s commitment and leadership in the development of the tourism sector towards becoming a world-renowned destination, said Nancy.
Also present at the meeting were Sabah State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong, Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry Deputy Chief Secretary Mohd Zamri Mat Zain, and other ministry senior officials. – The Vibes, July 27, 2022
