KINABATANGAN: Sabah Umno denied it has resumed support for the GRS government, as reported by a private television station.
Sabah Umno Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin claimed that Barisan Nasional (BN) Secretary-General Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir had previously made a statement that BN would support the GRS government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor by taking into account the Federal’s decision to form a Unity Government.
“Discussions were held by the Unity Government Permanent Secretariat to coordinate all the parties that founded it, and in Sabah, Umno was represented by former deputy chief Datuk Yakub Khan.
“However, to date, no resolution has been reached, and even the removal of politically appointed civil servants from Umno continues. Is this what the Unity Government means?” Bung said.
He said this during a Sentuhan Kasih Ramadan ceremony held at the Kinabatangan District Mosque, Tuesday, in response to a question about news that allegedly cited him as declaring that Sabah Umno has returned to support the GRS Government.
Bung said the presence of Umno leaders in the PGRS Government despite their inability to openly support and sign a statutory declaration has caused uncertainty among the general public, especially party members.
“Leaders who are dismissed by Umno because they signed a statutory declaration and openly supported it have already declared their exit from Umno,” he said.
Bung said he could not comment on who the Chief Minister appoints and dismisses from his Cabinet or civil servants appointed politically from Umno because it is the Chief Minister’s right, but it does not reflect the true notion of the Unity Government.
“How can we express our support if this is the case?” Bung asked.
