SANDAKAN: Sabah Umno has begun preparations for the next general election should it be called earlier than expected, said its State Liaison Committee Chairman Datuk Jafry Arifin.
He said the party remained ready as part of the Unity Government despite uncertainty over when the election would be held.
“Last week, I called a Sabah Umno Liaison Committee meeting to map out our preparations and work for the election,” he told reporters after officiating Sepilok Jazz 2026 at the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) here on Saturday.
Jafry said a schedule was also being drawn up to ensure the party machinery remained prepared, adding: “We do not know when, but what is certain is that we have taken steps to prepare for the election.”His remarks came after Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi proposed that the 16th General Election (GE16) be held earlier.
