Sabah warns underperforming GLCs, statutory bodies

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah has signalled tougher scrutiny of state statutory bodies and government-linked companies (GLCs) following a decline in financial returns, with dividends and contributions to the State dropping to RM131.60 million in 2025 and loan repayments falling to RM29.424 million.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) said underperforming organisations with weak governance or unclear direction would be objectively assessed, stressing that "inefficiency cannot be defended based on tradition, relationships or habit".

He also urged board members to move from "governance by compliance" to "governance by performance and accountability", reminding them that boards are not mere "rubber stamps" but guardians of public trust responsible for ensuring every decision and every ringgit spent delivers value to the State and its people.
