A 40-YEAR-OLD diver’s attempt to receive a parcel containing cannabis from Kuala Lumpur was thwarted after police raided his home in Taman BPL, Jalan Penampang, seizing over 139 grams of the drug.
The operation, led by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) of the Sabah Police Headquarters, followed intelligence received from the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (Agensi Kawalan dan Perlindungan Sempadan, AKPS), which had flagged a suspicious courier delivery.
“The team acted on information received regarding a package suspected to contain narcotics. A raid was conducted at the suspect’s residence at 3.25pm, leading to the arrest of a local male,” said Sabah JSJN Chief Assistant Commissioner Alhusin Halil.
The parcel, sent from Kuala Lumpur, was found to contain 139.09 grams of cannabis, estimated to be worth around RM1,000 on the street.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s home and person yielded no further contraband. However, initial urine screening returned positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound in cannabis.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had ordered the drugs via WhatsApp, admitting full knowledge of the contents. “He confessed that the package was intended for his personal use,” Alhusin added.
Police also confiscated an iPhone 15 Pro believed to have been used in the transaction and coordination of the delivery.
“The success of this case reflects the strong collaboration between JSJN Sabah and AKPS Malaysia in dismantling courier-based drug distribution tactics,” said Alhusin.
He warned that police would take firm action against individuals who attempt to exploit courier services for narcotics trafficking.
“JSJN Sabah will intensify intelligence gathering and operations to counter this increasingly common modus operandi, where parcels are used to conceal drugs from enforcement agencies,” he said. - October 18, 2025
